Many of us are not aware of the varies industry changes that take place day to day unless you are in fact a part of the flow of that industry. A change in platform and/or environment can create a new persona, image, or prospective for any business entity. For years we have seen similar shifts take place for individuals when moving from high school to college, from one job to another job, or from one relationship to another. This change of environment for a business means a potential shift for the owner/s as well. The new platform and/or environment comes with feelings of motivation and inspiration coupled with attractive features like new members and new circumstances. For this reason we must be mindful of our results in the present platform and/or environment before jumping forward to something else.

Many Afrikan(Black) business owners are expecting great success from marketing/advertising online through social media/networking sites that offer billions of users at their disposal. This challenge of succeeding online takes some finesse but can be accomplished if you remember the philosophical argument that art imitates life or the opposed idea that life actually imitates art.

Regardless of your position it is safe to say that certain aspects of what exist in one exist in the other. The major point here is that before one can dominate the world online media/networking sites from a business prospective, you must first have some experience in dominating the very real offline community of attracting customers and working with other business entities, kwk.

Below is a split photo of the Owner and Creator of Pharaonic Brand Designs. This company is not a client of mine but is a prime example of how to run a strong campaign whether you are online or offline. The photo to the right shows the owner offline interacting with his customers, wearing his product as well as promoting his brand. The same approach is taken online with the companies facebook page where he interacts with clients by putting a spotlight on photos of them wearing Pharaonic products and where he continues to promote his brand. This is the reason Pharaonic Brand Designs has almost 1600 likes and continues to grow.

As Afrikan(Black) business owners you have to center your energy on practical goals in order to channel the energy in the proper direction. Wordpress is one of the more popular CMS (Content Management Systems) platforms available for novice and intermediate users for creating, managing, and marketing your own blog website. The system is effective and has popular functionality features that are used across many management systems i.e. easy yo use widgets and automatic appearance changes which make the control panel attractive and easy to use.

Today I want to discuss what to consider before picking a theme for your wordpress site.

Side Note: We will assume that prior to reading the above statements; you are familiar with Wordpress and understand some of task associated the back end control panel. If that is not the case, please contact a professional (someone like me) that will handle your installation and maintenance. Below are some quick points to help you make a good choice.

First, let’s choose an appropriate theme type to filter down your theme search unless, you like looking at the 100s of templates that are available online. 

Another Side Note: One site that I like to use for theme selections is templatemonster which offers themes for many platforms as well as many filter options which makes searching very quick and easy.

Now, once you have filtered through some themes and found some that interest you, make sure to pay attention to extra offers beside the theme itself. Although the extra offers are not malicious it can be easy to confuse the price for just the theme alone, so pay attention. The theme price should be moderately priced between $75 to $135 dollars depending on where you shop.

A nice feature to look for is a demo or preview option which allows you to test out the functionality of the theme before purchase. I can not stress the importance of carefully inspecting any demo to ensure that what you see is what you get.

Another good idea is checking out what design styles are popular or in heavy use because riding a wave will keep your future site present with the times. It also may give you some insight into how to market your blog.

Lastly, do not make a decision after one sitting of search time. Please make sure to exhaust the options where premium themes are concerned because the last thing you want is to select a theme and hate it the next day.

Customer Serv-us and Technically Sub-par

The service industry has been in a steady decline since the introduction of “help lines”. If people only needed to hear the solutions to their problems versus having a physical person help resolve that issue with them, then the idea of needing physical contact can be challenged. But of course, this is not the case. While little attention is paid to this idea, our need for help lines and customer support increases.

The secret to navigating help lines are to only call when you absolutely have no other choice. A consumer’s best friend is and always will be another consumer. But how and where do we find those consumers? Overall, you have three major types of consumers that can aid you through an issue. There is a beginner, intermediate, and advanced level of consumer to look out for.

A consumer at the beginner level is probably the person that influenced you into purchasing whatever it is that is giving you difficulty now. They also do not have any technical knowledge that can help. While they may not sound like a great source of good information, please recognize that more than likely that person might have experienced the same issue or know someone that has.

The intermediate level consumer may or may not have technical knowledge, but has a higher purchasing power which equates to more experience with consumer issues. This experience will have aid you in figuring out what the next step should be. The intermediate consumer will also have some resources that will help as well.

The advanced level consumer is by far the best choice for information. This level of consumer is typically found on discussion forums, blogs, and other online platforms that feature the problematic product. Negotiating these websites is another issue all together, but as long as you target one of these three consumers before calling that help line, there will be a difference in your customer serv-us/ technical sub-par experience.
